BRACING FOR TOMORROW

THE HORIZON PROJECT DVD series is an ongoing research which utilizes scientific minds, making use of modern methods and technology to show the unsuspecting viewer, through newly discovered scientific evidence and historical records that the world as we know it is about to come to an end. Hosted by Senior Project Researcher Brent Miller, BRACING FOR TOMORROW presents his overwhelming evidence, as well as historical research and promises to open the viewer’s eyes and change their way they look at everything. Discover the Truth is their promise.

I found Brent Miller’s style melodramatic; scientific facts, sensationally urgent tones and intriguing poses used as convincing methods do not gel together. I kept on asking myself why this gentleman is trying so hard to be taken seriously, when the matter at hand is serious per se, and why he never changed his clothes [wearing the same immaculately ironed trousers and shirt, no matter where he was on the globe] throughout the documentary.

Watching this DVD one is left feeling compelled. But compelled to do what? Miller and his team do not give one advice on what to do nor how to escape the cataclysmic end. We are simply told that these cyclic cataclysms have brought mankind and previous civilizations to their knees, radically changing the surface of globe, dropping some species into the abyss of extinction, hypothesizing on polar shifts destroying the Earth as previously happened, citing historical evidence of such similar catastrophes, ancient cities found under the oceans, cosmic dust particles found in polar ice samples, ancient records of the sun moving backwards in the sky and unexplainable feats that can only be proven by missing ancient technologies forever lost to mankind.

To wind off we are left with the estimation that our solar system will commence crossing the Galactic plain between the years 2008 and 2015, ushering in cataclysms and cyclical catastrophes which will probably wipe out the greater part of mankind and Earth’s species of animal and plant life, if not all of it.

THE 11th HOUR

This documentary mostly narrated off-camera by Leonardo diCaprio, directed by Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen shows overwhelming images of landscapes and vast bodies of water spoilt by pollution, man’s greed, global warming, oil fields running dry, allergies in the population, lack of drinkable water, and the fragile relationship between man and the environment.

In it scientist, ecologists, oceanographers, economists, mycologist and physicists Stephen Hawking, Mikhail Gorbachev (former Soviet President) Wangari Maathai (Nobel Peace Prize winner), James Woolsley and environment activists present a sequence of data in snippet form to substantiate the point.

The documentary gathers momentum through scientific and analytical approach, leaving one with a feeling of optimism that though late, it is not too late to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet and make a significant change for the Earth and mankind. This DVD goes a long way to ward off the feeling of helplessness and nihilism and appeals to the power of reasoning in the individual viewer and encourages you to make the needed changes in your own life.

The 11th Hour makes for intellectually stimulating viewing, especially Thom Hartman’s explanation of “current sunlight” and how each one of us can make a difference through understanding that the Earth’s bounty does have limits and acting upon it responsibly.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

Al Gore narrates this documentary concerned with the approaching and inevitable crisis. This DVD makes one thing clear. Global warming is REAL! Immediate action must be entered into by world governments in order to halt and reverse the tipping of the scales and the clock ticking towards the destruction of our civilization and the annihilation of most of the species currently on the planet.

Photos and painstakingly complex statistics substantiate Al Gore’s point that the main cause of global warming is the burning of fossil fuels. Millions of years of stored energy is being emitted into the atmosphere causing the glaciers and snows to melt, and the more the ice melts, the more the sun’s energy is absorbed and retained by the sea instead of being reflected into space. The snows and glaciers melt and can therefore no longer reflect/deflect the sun’s energy into space. This spells catastrophe.

In this DVD we are warned that the end of the world as we know it won’t happen overnight, but will be a slow, irreversible process. And the prospect of living in a Mad Max society is painted grimly and clearly illustrated by graphs and Al’s lucid explanations.

What I enjoyed about An Inconvenient Truth is Gore’s declaration that this is not a political, but rather a moral issue. I also particularly enjoyed the point-form suggestions on how to play your role in this vitally needed change, example, the encouragement of alternative sources of energy: tidal, solar, wind and nuclear, hybrid and electric cars, subsidized public transport, using energy-saver bulbs, etc.

WHICH ONE’S WHICH?

Don’t attempt to watch all three DVD’s in one sitting for you will wind up seriously confused and perhaps even disheartened. Take your time and leave no stone unturned, when you later meditate on what you’ve viewed and try to find a way to apply the knowledge accrued to your personal life.

What I found interesting was the appearance of the word TRUTH in both Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and Brent Miller’s subtitle Discover the Truth …

Is it a case of “Nothing but the Truth, so help me Goddess”? Don’t be fooled by the word truth, but take what you can from each of the documentaries to arrive at your own informed conclusions and eventually decisions on this very delicate matter that affects us all.
